The Imperial Guard’s Revenge
Chapter 133 Child
At night, Hong Wanqing lay alone in bed, tossing and turning. Her husband had been away from home for a year and a half, and now that he had returned in triumph, she wasn’t the first person to see him. Even when she sent someone to inquire about Fu Tingzhou’s whereabouts, she was scolded by Madam Chen, who said she was being inconsiderate and interfering with a man’s important affairs.
But she was his wife.
Hong Wanqing couldn’t sleep. Staring at the silk tree blossoms on the bed, she couldn’t help but think, tonight’s banquet was full of military officers, would he spend the night with one of the dancers? And in Jiangnan, a place full of brothels, had he taken a mistress over the past two years?
The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became. She tossed and turned for a long time before finally drifting off in the middle of the night.
The next day, she rose early to do her hair and makeup. Not even on her wedding day had she dressed up so carefully. She waited anxiously until noon, when suddenly a maid came running in to report: “Madam, the Marquis has returned.”
Hong Wanqing shot to her feet and quickly looked in the mirror to check the ornaments atop her hair: “Where is he now? Has he come in?”
The maid hesitated, then bowed her head and said: “The Marquis has gone to the Old Madam’s courtyard to pay his respects.”
Hong Wanqing rushed to Madam Chen’s quarters and ran into her sister-in-laws along the way, who had also come to greet him. Embarrassed, she joined the group, and as they entered, they heard someone inside say: “… You’re going to Gansu? You just got back, why are you leaving again?”
“This is the emperor’s command. I’ll leave after New Years.”
Upon hearing this, Madam Chen grew more anxious: “Why the rush? At least stay through the first month.”
Fu Tingzhou responded calmly: “Military orders cannot be disobeyed.”
Madam Chen sighed. If the emperor already commanded so, what could she do? At that moment, she saw Hong Wanqing and the ladies arrive and waved them in: “You’ve all heard, haven’t you? The Marquis will be heading to the front soon. If you have anything to say to him, speak now, while there’s still time.”
When Hong Wanqing heard that he would be leaving again after New Years, it hit her like a bolt of lightning. She sat down beside Madam Chen with the others, forcing a smile on her face. But in her heart, she was brooding. She’d been married nearly three years and still had no children. Now that Fu Tingzhou was leaving the capital again, who knew when he’d return? Should she go with him on his new assignment?
But Gansu was desolate and remote, with fierce winds and sandstorms. Hong Wanqing felt deeply reluctant just thinking about living in such a place. With worries weighing on her mind, she had no desire to join the conversation with Madam Chen and the others. Yet somehow, they seemed to have endless things to say, chatting nonstop with Fu Tingzhou. Forced to sit and listen, Hong Wanqing felt like a fool, quietly enduring over an hour of idle chatter that left her thoroughly annoyed.
By the time she could finally excuse herself, it was already getting late. After being gone for a year and a half, Fu Tingzhou would surely return to the main chamber. Hong Wanqing walked alongside him, elated, and once back in their room, she immediately called for the maids to bring tea and pastries, busily directing everyone around.
Fu Tingzhou wanted to tell her not to bother as he only intended to sit for a moment before leaving. But seeing how excited she was, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He simply lowered his head and sipped his tea, avoiding conversation. Sitting across from him, Hong Wanqing assumed he liked the tea and promptly refilled his cup the moment he set it down: “Master Marquis, this is spring-picked Liu’an tea, specially harvested from Mount Qiyun.”
Fu Tingzhou responded with a quiet hum, then slowly swirled his teacup, saying nothing more. Hong Wanqing waited a while, trying to start a conversation: “Yesterday, after leaving the palace, why did you go straight to the Wuding Marquis Mansion without coming home to change first? It’s been a long time since we visited my uncle, how is he doing these days?”
“The Marquis of Wuding is doing well.”
“Marquis, you’re going to Gansu? That’s so far. How long will you be gone?”
“I’ll follow the court’s orders.”
When a man didn’t want to talk, it was never ambiguous. If he did, he would find something to say even to the coldest beauty. If he didn’t, no matter how many topics were thrown at him, he’d ignore them all.
Hong Wanqing tried again but couldn’t find a way to continue. She had originally planned to use Gansu to gradually bring up whether she could accompany him, but Fu Tingzhou wasn’t engaging. What could she do?
She said: “In any case, you’ll be home for a month. At least you can get some rest. Marquis, Fourth Sister is getting married during the New Year. I don’t know if you’ll be able to attend. Here, this is the wedding gift I prepared for her. What do you think?”
She asked the maid to bring out a set of solid gold hair ornaments from the dressing box. Fu Tingzhou gave it a quick glance, nodded, and said: “You’re her eldest sister-in-law, I’ll let you handle it.”
Talking about jewelry, Hong Wanqing finally found a topic she was familiar with and began chattering enthusiastically: “It’s almost the end of the year, and there are so many banquets in the capital, even the palace is setting up for events. A new jewelry shop opened this year, and their gold threads are so evenly and finely worked. The floral and bird designs they make are beautiful. They are the only store like this in the capital and every new release gets snapped up right away. Fourth Sister is young and a new bride, so I got her a set with butterflies and flowers. I kept a set of a phoenix holding a pearl for myself. Sadly, the most beautiful set, gold inlaid with jade, was already reserved by the Lu family…”
Fu Tingzhou was listening indifferently, but when he heard the Lu family also ordered a set, he finally looked up and examined the craftsmanship of the ornaments.
The jewelry was truly exquisite. The fine gold threads were woven into butterflies and flower petals, layered with vivid detail. Even though it was made of pure gold, it didn’t look gaudy. It had an elegant and commanding presence. Fu Tingzhou imagined what it might look like with jade inlays. Surely, it would strike a perfect balance between refinement and nobility.
It would certainly look beautiful on her.
Hong Wanqing was still complaining, muttering about how she had clearly arrived first, she had been standing right there in person, but the Lu family’s servant snatched the jewelry set before her eyes. Her words were full of resentment and Fu Tingzhou suddenly said: “It’s just a set of jewelry. Let her have it.”
Hong Wanqing had only been venting casually. The incident had happened long ago, and she no longer truly cared, she simply felt a little unsettled thinking back on it. But Fu Tingzhou, with clear impatience, cut her off and bluntly told her to give it to Wang Yanqing.
As if it were only natural for Wang Yanqing to deserve something better than her.
Hong Wanqing froze. When she finally processed his words, all the suppressed grievances and anger from the day before surged out uncontrollably. Her expression darkened: “What do you mean by that, Marquis? I am your legitimate wife. The Madam Marquis of Zhenyuan and yet in your heart, am I not even worth more than an outsider?”
An outsider. Fu Tingzhou found those words piercingly harsh, and his tone grew cold as well: “If you know you are the Madam Marquis, then why are you being unreasonable? What a disgrace.”
“You think I’m being unreasonable?” Hong Wanqing stared at him in disbelief. A flood of sorrow overwhelmed her, and tears began to fall. “I was only seventeen when our engagement was arranged. But then you observed your mourning rites, followed the emperor on the Southern Patrol, and later went to Datong. I waited three full years before we finally married. Did I ever complain? After our wedding, you never once stepped into the inner quarters. You roamed far and wide, fighting wars while I managed the household, honored your parents and grandmother, and arranged weddings for your younger sisters. Since the day I entered the Fu family, I’ve worked hard and done everything myself. Now, just because of a piece of jewelry, you accuse me of being unreasonable?”
Once she started crying, she couldn’t stop. All the grievances she had bottled up since their marriage came flooding out. Fu Tingzhou watched her tears and felt a twinge of guilt, but it was only guilt.
He once believed that a man could never stand to see a woman cry. When Qing Qing was even slightly upset, his heart would ache. If her eyes shimmered with tears, he felt as though his soul was being wrenched apart, and he would vow never to make her cry again. But now, watching Hong Wanqing cry before him, he realized that a woman’s tears weren’t beautiful at all. Anyone who lost control of their emotions looked ugly.
He knew he had wronged Hong Wanqing, but guilt was not affection, and responsibility could not be transformed into love.
Fu Tingzhou sat silently across from her. After a moment, he stood up and said: “Don’t overthink things. You’ve done your part as the Madam Marquis very well, and no one will threaten your position. Don’t cry, get a handkerchief and dry your tears.”
With that, he left.
Hong Wanqing felt him turn away and instinctively looked up in shock. But she was only able to catch a glimpse of his back as he lifted the curtain to leave. She sat frozen on the luohan couch, unable to react for a long time.
How could he be so cold and heartless. She had been wrong. In a world full of couples who only maintained appearances, why had she thought she would be the exception? That simply holding the title of his wife would one day grant her his love?
By her parents’ orders, the matchmaker’s words, what she married was never truly a person, she had only taken on the title of the Zhenyuan Madam Marquis. A union between families, this marriage had always been a matter between him, her father, and her uncle. It had nothing to do with her at all!
Realizing this, Hong Wanqing cried even harder, sobs tearing from her chest.
Word quickly spread through the Zhenyuan Marquis Mansion. After returning from battle, the Marquis sat in Madam Hong’s room for less than a quarter of an hour before walking out. Afterwards, the Madam Marquis remained inside crying for a long time. There was no need to ask, everyone knew the two had quarreled again.
The servants in the household whispered in pity, but no one dared say much. This argument had stirred quite a commotion and somehow the Madam’s maiden family, the Yongping Marquis Mansion, heard about it as well. The Yongping Madam Marquis came in person, her face filled with worry as she looked at her daughter: “I heard you argued with the Marquis over a piece of gold jewelry?”
Hong Wanqing responded with a lifeless hum. It hadn’t been because of the jewelry, but it wasn’t wrong to say so. The Yongping Madam Marquis felt distressed to the point of anguish. She scolded and coaxed in turn, unable to understand how her once obedient and bright daughter had become so difficult after marriage.
After a long round of persuasion with no visible effect, her expression turned stern: “Don’t take this lightly. Your father is furious after hearing about what you did. To throw a fit at your husband over gold and silver trinkets, is this how a wife should behave?”
“It wasn’t about the jewelry!” Hong Wanqing cried out in frustration, but when she looked into her mother’s eyes, she swallowed the rest of her words. Was it really that her parents didn’t know the real problem? No, they knew, they just didn’t care.
In their eyes, she married the ideal husband. He was young, promising, with a bright future, as well as handsome and commanding. What more could she possibly want? The fact that Fu Tingzhou didn’t love her wasn’t important at all. As long as the marriage produced an heir, that was enough.
Only Hong Wanqing knew how painful it was to live with a man who didn’t love her. And what hurt even more was that her own mother didn’t even understand her sorrow, she simply thought her daughter was being overdramatic.
Seeing her daughter finally quiet down, Madam Yongping softened her tone and offered more gentle advice: “I know you’re proud and strong-willed, but that’s how marriages are. Why do they say newlyweds are sweet? Because for the first three months, there’s still harmony. Once the novelty wears off, men always go looking for someone new. What you should do is keep the other women in check, let them know you control their fate instead of competing with them. And especially don’t fight with your husband, that only pushes him further away.”
Hong Wanqing remained silent. Madam Yongping looked at her once fiery, headstrong daughter, now dull and joyless after only a few years of marriage and couldn’t help but sigh. Remembering the real reason for her visit, she gripped Hong Wanqing’s hand tightly and said: “Child, all that talk of romance and passion is just made-up nonsense from storybooks. What really matters is two people getting through life together.”
Was love a lie? Then why could Lu Heng refuse to take concubines all these years for Wang Yanqing? Why was Fu Tingzhou still holding on to her after all this time?
Madam Yongping saw Hong Wanqing with her eyes lowered and, worried she might spiral again, quickly said: “I know you’re feeling down. I brought a few of your sisters with me today to talk with you. In a moment, we can call them in and see which one is the most pleasing to the eye.”
Hong Wanqing immediately sensed something was wrong. She frowned and asked: “The most pleasing to the eye? They’re not staying in the Fu Mansion, why would I need to like looking at them?”
Madam Yongping fell silent. Hong Wanqing’s heart sank, and her voice trembled: “Mother. What do you mean by this?”
Madam Yongping sighed, then chose to speak plainly: “This is something your father and brother discussed. They believe it’s the best solution. The Marquis of Zhenyuan is heading to Gansu next year. As his wife, you must remain here to manage the household and care for your in-laws, you can’t leave so easily. But he’s a young man in his prime. It’s unrealistic for him to go without a woman by his side for three or five years. What if he ends up with multiple illegitimate sons over there? Rather than letting unknown women enter the family and dilute our assets, it’s better to elevate one of your half-sisters, someone who shares your blood. At least she’ll be loyal to you and help manage the household.”
Hong Wanqing felt her entire body go cold: “Mother what are you saying? I’m perfectly capable of having children. How could you suggest bringing in one of my own sisters as a concubine? If it comes to that, I’ll go to Gansu myself. I’ll endure a few hard years there.”
Madam Yongping sighed again. In truth, there was one thing she didn’t dare say. The heir — Wanqing’s older brother, had pointed out that even after three years of marriage, Fu Tingzhou rarely visited Wanqing’s chambers. It was clear he had no affection for her. And for a man, if there was no liking, there’s no point to hope love will grow over time. It was better to find someone new.
Wanqing likely wouldn’t give birth to the legitimate eldest son. So, to preserve the alliance between the Fu and Hong families, the only option was to choose another Hong daughter.
But Madam Yongping didn’t speak that harsh truth. Instead, she said gently: “Wanqing, filial piety comes first. You are the eldest daughter-in-law, and your in-laws are still alive. If you leave home on your own accord, people will mock you. It’s better to send one of your half-sisters to Gansu. Her mother will still be under my control, and she won’t cause any trouble. If she has a son, you can raise him yourself. It will be no different than having your own child.”
Wanqing understood now. What her father and brother wanted was for the legitimate heir of the Marquis of Zhenyuan to be a child of the Hong family, even if it wasn’t her child.
In other words, her own family had abandoned her.
She felt as though she had fallen into an icy abyss. Her whole body became numb. She looked at her mother, lips trembling. She wanted to beg her to take the girls back, but then the crushing realization hit, her father and brother had already made the decision. Her mother was only here to inform her. Her opinion didn’t matter at all.
She had once prided herself on her noble birth, looking down on servant girls, farming women, and even common-born women like Wang Yanqing. But now, as her father and brother prepared to strip her of fine clothes and jewels, Hong Wanqing finally realized, she was worth nothing.
Even a peasant woman who sold tofu had a skill. But what about her? What did she know how to do?
The Yongping Madam Marquis dismissed the others and spoke privately with Hong Wanqing for a long time. Wanqing cried again and finally gave in to fate. Listlessly, she told the servants to bring in her half-sisters.
The young girls clearly knew the purpose of today’s visit. Each one had dressed beautifully and came in smiling to greet her with deep, respectful curtsies: “Third Sister, greetings.”
Their voices were sweet and delicate, like fresh buds in early spring, but to Wanqing, it only made her want to sneer. Her eyes swept over the line of girls slowly, and she soon noticed something, they all shared a similar style in how they had dressed.
To be precise, they all resembled one person.
She didn’t even need to think. Her mind shouted the name instantly, Wang Yanqing.
Hong Wanqing let out a cold laugh in her heart. Looking at these girls, so young, so fresh, she felt no jealousy. Instead, a cruel and bitter satisfaction rose within her. They thought Fu Tingzhou liked soft, gentle, understanding women. What they didn’t realize was that he didn’t like that type at all. He simply liked that one woman.
Earlier, her mother confided that her father favored the Sixth Miss, Hong Wanqing’s sixth sister. Wanqing glanced at her, sloped shoulders, slim waist, flirtatious eyes. Standing there, she did have an air of fragile charm.
But Hong Wanqing quietly laughed to herself. It was useless. The Sixth Miss might have the look of a delicate white flower, but her eyes were full of calculation. She was more like a strangling vine, beautiful but deadly. She didn’t have that gentle, unthreatening, truly harmless aura. Fu Tingzhou would never like her.
But Hong Wanqing said nothing. She smiled and reached out to the Hong’s Sixth Miss: “Sixth Miss has grown so beautiful. I’m always bored in the Marquis’s household, why don’t you stay and keep me company for a chat?”
A small smile flickered at the corners of Sixth Miss’s lips, and then she quickly adopted a shy, demure expression as she said sweetly: “Thank you, Third Sister.”
·
In the afternoon, the sunlight shone just right. Wang Yanqing leaned against the window, humming softly as she lulled her son to sleep, all while the sun warmed her gently. Lu Xuan kicked his little legs a few times before drifting off. Wang Yanqing yawned, she was feeling sleepy too.
Lu Heng returned to find the room bathed in warm light filtered through the window paper. She rested her forehead on a soft pillow, her hair tousled, her expression serene. Strands of hair fell across her neck, and the red skirt and white blouse she wore shimmered in the sunlight, making her glow with gentle radiance.
Beside her lay a bright red swaddling cloth, holding a chubby little baby who was curled up in sleep, his tiny fists clenched.
Lu Heng gestured for the maids to hold off their greetings and quietly dismissed them. He had just approached the luohan couch when Wang Yanqing stirred. She opened her eyes, saw Lu Heng, and relaxed back onto the pillow with a lazy stretch: “Why are you home already?”
“There wasn’t much to do at the office today, so I left early.” Lu Heng sat beside her, adjusting her pillow so she could lie more comfortably. “Is your back still sore today?”
Wang Yanqing shook her head: “It’s fine.”
After learning Wang Yanqing was pregnant, Madam Fan wrote that she wanted to come to the capital to help look after them, but Lu Heng politely declined. Though it was Wang Yanqing’s first pregnancy, the Lu Mansion had plenty of experienced nurses and nannies. There was no need to trouble Madam Fan with such a long journey.
He’d also heard that his sister-in-law, Madam Chu, had recently given birth to a daughter. So, he asked Madam Fan to stay in Anlu and help take care of his elder brother and sister-in-law’s household instead.
Lu Zhan still needed her around. Madam Fan reluctantly gave up the idea of traveling to the capital but sent a long letter full of advice, what to watch for during childbirth, and how to care for the mother afterward. Since then, she had written every month, always with advice, and Lu Heng read every word.
Though Wang Yanqing had been out of training for a while, her foundation in martial arts meant her body was stronger than that of a typical noble lady. She hadn’t suffered much during childbirth. But a delivery was hard on the back, and Wang Yanqing always had a weak waist. Even three months after confinement, Lu Heng still wouldn’t let her sit for too long. If she could lean, she leaned. If she could lie down, she did.
Lu Heng reached past her to gently stroke Lu Xuan’s hand. Wang Yanqing playfully slapped his hand away and warned him: “He just fell asleep, don’t wake him. Otherwise, he’ll nap now and stay up all night raising havoc.”
Lu Heng reluctantly pulled his hand back. His son couldn’t be teased, but his wife always could be. He slid his hand to her waist and began gently kneading the sore muscles there: “Qing Qing, I heard something amusing today.”
“Hmm?”
“The Marquis of Zhenyuan has been reassigned as Commander of Gansu. He left today.”
His touch was steady and soothing, and Wang Yanqing’s back indeed felt much better. She closed her eyes and waited for a beat. When she realized he had nothing more to say, she replied indifferently: “Oh.”
Lu Heng lowered his gaze to look at her. The sunlight cast a golden sheen on her clear, fair skin. She wore a simple home outfit and leaned against the pillow in quiet ease. With her jet-black hair and snow-white complexion, she looked like the embodiment of peace and stillness.
He continued massaging slowly and said: “Not long after the Marquis married, he and his wife separated. I hear that the Madam Marquis is deeply filial, she volunteered to stay behind to serve his parents. She even personally arranged for a concubine to accompany him to Gansu and take care of him there.”
Wang Yanqing subtly raised an eyebrow. She opened her eyes and looked directly at Lu Heng: “What exactly are you trying to say?”
Lu Heng smiled and lay down beside her, curling a strand of her hair around his finger: “A wife staying behind while a concubine travels with her husband isn’t that unusual. What is interesting is that this new concubine also has the surname Hong.”
Wang Yanqing frowned, disbelief flashing across her face: “Don’t tell me she’s from the Yongping Marquis Mansion?”
“That’s right.” Lu Heng nodded. “She’s one of Yongping Marquis’s illegitimate daughters, his wife’s younger sister.”
Wang Yanqing remained silent for a long time. Lu Heng watched her quietly, smiling as he asked: “What’s on your mind?”
“I think it’s ridiculous.” Wang Yanqing said, then shook her head. “Forget it. Since the Yongping Marquis, Hong Wanqing, and he all agreed, who am I to say anything?”
Lu Heng studied her expression and asked: “You truly don’t feel anything about it?”
“Other families taking concubines, what feelings could I possibly have?” Wang Yanqing shot him a sharp look, “Unlike someone, always full of scheming thoughts and constantly testing me.”
“Don’t be angry.” Lu Heng laughed as he wrapped his arms around her, “I just heard a romantic little tidbit and thought it might amuse my wife.”
“Oh? So your work at the office now includes collecting gossip?”
“Not just that.” Lu Heng said smugly. “I know every scandal in the capital. Which official’s concubine is fooling around with her father-in-law, which respectable young lady is secretly involved with her servant, I know it all. Qing Qing, would you like to hear more?”
“I don’t want to hear any of it.” Wang Yanqing snapped, then added irritably, “Is that where you picked up all your indecent tricks?”
Lu Heng shook his head solemnly: “Certainly not. The techniques I use on you were carefully curated from various books. As for the filth I hear while performing my duties, I wish I could unhear it.”
Wang Yanqing pressed her lips together and said nothing. She knew exactly how these conversations ended, she be left exasperated, and Lu Heng would be perfectly fine. He adored her annoyed expression and leaned in to plant a heavy kiss on her cheek: “You’re still so adorable, just like when I first met you.”
Wang Yanqing snorted coldly and shot back: “Please. When you first met me, weren’t you thinking of how to kill me?”
“How could you think that of me?” Lu Heng acted as though he’d been wronged beyond words, “Am I the kind of man who doesn’t know how to cherish a delicate beauty? If I didn’t like you, why did I pretend to be your brother?”
Watch, this man could twist even these things into truth. Wang Yanqing sneered: “So you just kept pretending until I got my memory back and forced you to admit the truth?”
“Qing Qing, if we could have pretended for a lifetime, it would’ve become real.” Lu Heng rested his chin on her head and said softly, “I really wished you were my foster sister. That we’d grown up together, childhood sweethearts, promising to grow old together.”
His voice carried a faint melancholy. He’d always been rational and ruthless, but this was the first time Wang Yanqing heard such raw emotion from him. After a pause, she wrapped her arms around his waist: “We already have a son, what’s the point in talking about the past?”
Lu Heng smiled and held her close: “You’re right. There’s no use in what ifs. The future is all that matters now.”
The two of them held each other quietly in the sunlight. Little Lu Xuan lay beside them, his legs kicking here and there even in sleep. Wang Yanqing laughed and said: “What’s he dreaming about? He can’t even sleep peacefully.”
Lu Heng smiled too and pulled the blanket up over Lu Xuan: “Maybe he’s chasing something. So energetic at this age, he is definitely a natural martial arts student. The emperor asked about him again today. He said that when he’s a bit older, he wants him to enter the palace and study alongside the princes.”
Wang Yanqing was startled: “With which prince?”
“The emperor didn’t say.” Lu Heng gently patted her back, “It’s still years away, no need to worry.”
But the imperial princes were growing up fast, and the matter of appointing a crown prince was now being publicly discussed. Becoming a study companion to a prince was no small matter, choose the right side and it meant imperial favor, even dragon-throne merit, like Lu Heng himself. Choose the wrong one…
Wang Yanqing’s heart was full of worry. Seeing how a single offhand comment had spoiled her mood, Lu Heng regretted it and quickly shifted the topic to something absurd to distract her: “I remember when I first started pretending to be your brother, I took the blame for so many things. Once, when your period came and you fainted from the pain, I brought in a doctor. The doctor assumed I was your husband and scolded me furiously. I was so humiliated. Thank goodness I actually did become your husband later, otherwise, wouldn’t I have suffered that loss for nothing?”
This had happened a long time ago, Wang Yanqing had to really think to recall it: “And what happened with the doctor afterward?”
“What else? Naturally, I politely saw him out.” Lu Heng sighed, “What do you take me for? Do you think I’d do something like silencing the doctor to hide an illness? At the time, the physician even told me that women are naturally frail, and that if their yang energy could be properly unblocked, their monthly pains wouldn’t be so severe.”
Wang Yanqing didn’t quite understand and asked naturally: “So how do you unblock it?”
Lu Heng chuckled softly and lowered his gaze to look at her meaningfully: “What do you think?”
Wang Yanqing thought about it, and her cheeks flushed. She didn’t ask any further. Looking back now, Lu Heng felt like it had all been a dream: “Back then, every step we took was by chance, who would have thought we’d come to this day? It seems Heaven truly favors me. Afraid I’d live a lonely life, it went to great lengths to send me a wife.”
Wang Yanqing didn’t like hearing him talk about being alone and cursed. She reached out to hug him and said: “You’re anything but alone in this life. We have little Xuan, and we’ll have more children in the future.”
Lu Heng pulled her tightly into his arms and murmured: “Alright.”
