TIGR Chapter 127

The Imperial Guard’s Revenge

Chapter 127 Taken In

By the dock, Wu Sheng hurried his subordinates who were moving the goods, anxiously glancing back toward the city.

He was certain he had just heard gunfire, and not just once. Why did Wu Zhang fire so many times? Was the assassination unsuccessful?

According to the plan, they should have already left the city. Why was there no sign of anyone?

A man with a goatee, seeming to be an advisor, ran over and said: “Boss, the boxes are all loaded onto the ship. It’s getting late, and it will be difficult to sail at night. We must leave soon.”

Wu Sheng gazed deeply in the direction of Suzhou city: “But Wu Zhang hasn’t come out yet.”

“Second Boss might have left through another gate.” Wu Sheng was reluctant to leave his brother behind, but the adviser was concerned about his own safety, and kept urging, “Boss, we have imperial firearms on the ship. If we’re discovered, it would be a crime of treason that could destroy the entire clan. The lives of hundreds of brothers on Jintai Island depend on you.”

They received a secret letter from shore that afternoon, informing them that a shipload of weapons was docked at Suzhou harbor. But in exchange, they had to help those officials kill someone. Though Jintai Island relied on trade with the westerners to get western firearms, that only solved part of their problems. If they could obtain the imperial weapons, they would no longer have to fear anyone at sea.

The temptation was too great. So even though it would be tight, Wu Sheng still agreed. The letter mentioned that their target would leave Suzhou tonight, and they had to kill him and seize the weapons before then. Wu Sheng quickly gathered his men, and Wu Zhang insisted on entering the city to kill the imperial official. Wu Sheng couldn’t control him, so he reluctantly allowed it.

Wu Zhang lay in ambush in the city, while Wu Sheng personally led their men in a surprise attack on the official ship. When it came to skills on the water, no one was better than them. They heard that these officials were from the north and couldn’t even swim, let alone be a match for them.

They paddled a small boat quietly, getting close without making a sound. Then the better swimmers submerged themselves, swimming beneath the boat to drill a hole in the bottom. When the people on the boat realized they were taking on water, they panicked. While they rushed to the leak, Wu Sheng quickly gave the signal for his men to board. The soldiers aboard the official boat were poor swimmers, each one easily overwhelmed and fell off the boat, sinking with barely a bubble. The men from Jintai Island quickly lifted the wooden boxes and moved them onto their own boat.  And once the boat was empty, they didn’t forget to set the official ship on fire.

The flames roared, lighting up half the river’s surface. The adviser anxiously urged them to leave, fearing that someone might come after them. However, the Boss, Wu Sheng, just stared blankly at the city gate. The adviser continued to urge him, but Wu Sheng remained unmoved. He fixed his gaze on the inner city, gritting his teeth: “Wait a little longer.”

The others aboard the ship were growing impatient, grumbling under their breath. Even though Wu Sheng was the Boss, he couldn’t gamble with their lives. Forced by the pressure, he reluctantly glanced at the city gate, made up his mind, and said: “Set sail.”

The adviser quickly agreed, and the ship started moving. The dock slowly faded into the distance, and the lights of Suzhou city became a distant blur, a dark silhouette on the shore.

The men of Jintai Island were in high spirits, having secured a large haul of weapons, though they dared not show it due to Wu Sheng’s serious mood. They whispered to each other in a corner: “Today was great, all that stuff on that ship is ours. Those boxes were so heavy, my arms are still numb.”

“Yeah, those soldiers were useless. I could knock one of them out with a single punch. And they call themselves the elite Imperial Guards, what a joke. If I joined the Imperial Guards, I’d probably be able to be a commander.”

A group of them hid in the corner, laughing recklessly. The boat sailed deeper into the dark ocean, quickly disappearing from view. At this distance, even if the imperial navy wouldn’t be able to catch up to them if they wanted to. The mood on the ship grew more jubilant as the crew celebrated.

There was no moon tonight, and the stars were dim. The burning boat became even more striking, the flames licking the air, casting shadows on the water’s surface that seemed to move as if there were another world beneath the waves. Suddenly, one after another, the sound of water splashing broke through the silence, and several men emerged, soaked, from the water. The crew grabbed each other’s hands, struggling to climb up the riverbank.

“This group really knows how to drag things out, I almost suffocated from the wait. The Supreme Commander truly has an uncanny sense of these things. Fortunately, the crew on duty were all replaced with those familiar with the water, otherwise, today would have been difficult.”

“Check if everyone’s here.”

“They’re all here. A few are injured, but no one’s dead.”

“Did a few people blend in?”

“There are pirate corpses underwater, and their clothes were stripped off. They must have mixed in.”

“Good.” The leader bit the cloth strip between his teeth, tightly pulling it to bind the wound on his arm, “Let’s head into the city and meet up at the inn.”

Between a street battle and a burning ship at the dock, the commotion finally attracted the attention of the Suzhou authorities. A group of officials, surrounded by soldiers, hurried over. Upon seeing Lu Heng, they hesitated: “May I ask, who are you?”

Lu Heng was wounded but still exuded a dignified presence and showed no signs of distress. His attendants, too, were all remarkable in appearance. With such an imposing demeanor, it was clear he wasn’t a mere merchant or commoner. Lu Heng gave a faint nod to the leader and said: “I am Lu, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Guards. We were capturing a group of fugitives earlier, and it seems it got a bit loud. I apologize for disturbing your rest.”

Given the scale of the disturbance that night, it was certain that Lu Heng’s whereabouts would be discovered. So, he decided to reveal his identity outright to see how these officials would respond.

Upon hearing Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Guards, the Suzhou officials were visibly shocked. The leader stepped forward with a smile and cupped his hands: “So it’s Supreme Commander Lu. I apologize for not welcoming you earlier. I am Yu Xiao, the Deputy of Suzhou, and I’ve had the honor of meeting you before. I was sent here by the Prefect to investigate the explosion, but I did not expect it to be you. I will immediately send someone to the prefectural office to report this to the Prefect and arrange a proper welcome for you.”

“We don’t need a welcoming ceremony,” Lu Heng said, his arm stained with blood, but still standing upright in the night, not embarrassed at all. He spoke calmly: “I’ve already arranged for my accommodations and don’t wish to cause any trouble. Furthermore, if Deputy Yu wants to offer a welcoming ceremony, perhaps you should head to the dock outside the city and save that burning ship first.”

“I don’t understand what you mean, Supreme Commander Lu.”

Lu Heng smiled and looked at them with an air of nonchalance: “That ship is mine.”

Lu Heng, the one whose ship had been burned, remained undisturbed. On the other hand, the Suzhou officials, now facing a grave situation, quickly took action and led soldiers to the shore to put out the fire. After dispatching the soldiers, Lu Heng returned to the inn with his men. They had to travel day and night and couldn’t afford to take along a local doctor. Lu Heng also didn’t trust the local healers, so in the end, Wang Yanqing helped him dress his wound.

Lu Heng’s arm had been scraped by debris during the fight. Fortunately, the injury wasn’t critical, though it was bleeding quite a bit. Wang Yanqing had trained in martial arts since she was young and was skilled in basic wound care. She carefully used tweezers to remove the debris from the wound and then dipped a cotton in alcohol: “I’m going to clean the wound with alcohol now, it might sting a bit.”

Lu Heng nodded. They had always used strong liquor to clean their wounds in the past, and Wang Yanqing’s gentle touch was a stark contrast. She carefully cleaned the wound, trying to distract him from the pain by talking: “The ship is burning, but you don’t seem at all worried.”

“It’s already burned. What good is it for me to worry?” Lu Heng said, “The fire is the most uncontrollable thing. One misstep, and you could lose your life. Whoever saves it, it’s all the same. Let the Suzhou officials risk their lives.”

Fighting fire was dangerous and exhausting, and there might even be leftover gunpowder inside the ship. Lu Heng didn’t want to risk his men’s lives. Just as he was thinking about this, Yu Xiao arrived with his men. This kind of dangerous task was better left to the Suzhou officials.

The cotton soon became soaked with blood, and Wang Yanqing replaced it with a new piece, asking: “Did you know?”

Lu Heng chuckled lightly: “Know what?”

Yesterday, Wang Yanqing and Lu Heng had finalized their plan. Wang Yanqing would find a way to talk to Zhu Yuxiu, and when they were alone, she would ask Zhu Yuxiu to prepare the evidence in advance. While traveling today, she saw Zhu Yuxiu and had quickly come up with the idea of the ice cream.

It was a legitimate opportunity for the two women to be alone while changing clothes, and Wang Yanqing could then visit later under the pretense of delivering clothing. Everything had been going smoothly until they left the Zhu family home, only to be ambushed.

Wang Yanqing leaned closer to Lu Heng, whispering: “Who leaked our plan to visit the Zhu family this afternoon?”

Lu Heng had undone his shirt to tend to his wound. Wang Yanqing sat beside him, and as she leaned closer, her breath lightly brushed against his skin, both ticklish and cooling. Lu Heng moved his fingers slightly: “Come here, and I’ll tell you.”

Wang Yanqing hurriedly set down the alcohol, her face serious as she leaned closer to his lips. Her skin had a pearly white glow, and her ears were particularly delicate, with fine veins visible under her skin, though her earlobes were small and cute. As Lu Heng thought this, he couldn’t resist biting her earlobe, speaking in the same soft whisper: “It was me.”

Her ears were sensitive, and the mere breath against them turned them red. Wang Yanqing froze, turning in disbelief: “You?”

She originally thought Lu Heng was joking, but as she looked into his composed, smiling eyes, it dawned on her: “You deliberately spread false information?”

“False information?” Lu Heng corrected her like a diligent teacher, “Didn’t we go to the Zhu residence this afternoon? We went, so how could you call it fake?”

Wang Yanqing understood then. Lu Heng had deliberately leaked his own movements as bait to flush out the mole. He had only brought a few attendants to the Zhu family but had set up an ambush in another area, capturing the pirates without firing a single shot. Looking at it this way, the ship docked at the harbor was probably just a distraction, and the firearms had likely been moved long ago.

Wang Yanqing understood his intentions but couldn’t help feeling uneasy when she looked at his injuries: “Since you knew someone was going to assassinate you, why would you still put yourself in danger? They didn’t even know what you looked like, so sending someone else would have worked just as well.”

“That won’t do.” Lu Heng tightened his grip on Wang Yanqing’s hand and smiled casually, though still with a sense of calm. “I don’t want anyone else walking beside you, calling you Madam.”

He downplayed the situation, but Wang Yanqing understood the underlying meaning. In a battle, morale was key. Being on the frontlines rather than hiding in the back made a huge difference in the soldiers’ hearts.

If the commander was afraid for his own life, how could he expect his soldiers to charge into danger? Lu Heng might be a controversial figure at court, but inside the Imperial Guards, everyone followed his orders without question, willing to risk their lives for him. His command stemmed from his magnetic personality.

Seeing Wang Yanqing silent, Lu Heng wrapped his uninjured arm around her, gently but firmly: “It’s fine. Don’t worry.”

His upper body was well-muscled, and Wang Yanqing could feel his warmth even through the fabric. She gently pushed his arm and said: “Let’s treat your wounds first.”

Wang Yanqing used alcohol to clean his wound and carefully applied medicine. As she tended to his injury, she saw the scar from an old arrow wound on his shoulder, a mark left from a previous pirate ambush. Although it had healed, a crescent-shaped scar remained.

At the time, she had just regained her memory. She was angry at him for deceiving her and suspected he was using his injuries to gain sympathy. Seeing it again today, without him needing to say anything, Wang Yanqing’s heart ached for him.

She carefully wrapped the bandage around his arm. After setting the scissors and bandage down, she didn’t pull away, gently tracing her fingers over his scars, murmuring: “These scars were because of me.”

Lu Heng immediately reacted, forgetting any pretense of using his injuries for sympathy. He quickly turned and pulled Wang Yanqing into his arms: “What nonsense are you saying? It was my plan, it has nothing to do with you.”

Wang Yanqing still looked downcast. Seeing her like this, Lu Heng’s heart softened, and he didn’t know how to comfort her. He held her tightly, resting his chin on her hair and said: “I didn’t tell you before taking you into danger, and now you feel guilty because I got hurt. With this kind of personality, what would you do if you really met a troublesome family?”

“You wouldn’t.” Wang Yanqing leaned against Lu Heng’s chest, her voice filled with complete trust, “You must have had your reasons for not telling me. Wherever you take me, you’d never let me get hurt.”

Such a fool, Lu Heng sighed, thinking about how easy it was to deceive her. But at the same time, he couldn’t help but hold her even closer. He explained: “It’s not that I wanted to hide things from you, it’s just that I didn’t want you to worry. After all, I was taking a gamble. I wasn’t sure they would follow my plan. Even if we managed to get away today, they would eventually realize something was off. If they interrogated the Zhu family, they’d know where we went. This was my issue, and I didn’t want to involve anyone else. I’d just take care of it myself. That’s why I deliberately spread the rumor at noon, saying we would leave tonight, forcing them to act quickly. As soon as they did, they would reveal their flaws. I’m sorry for scaring you.”

“It’s fine.” Wang Yanqing shook her head, understanding the situation. “It would be useless for me to know in advance, and it would expose my true identity, not telling me was the right choice. But what about the firearms on that ship?”

Lu Heng smiled inwardly, feeling thankful for such a wise and trusting wife. He buried his face in her hair, gently inhaling her scent, and said: “They’ve already been swapped.”

Wang Yanqing raised an eyebrow, surprised. She had been on the ship the whole time, when did they switch them? Lu Heng rest his head on her shoulder, almost childishly content. Wang Yanqing allowed it for a moment, then lightly tapped his arm: “Be careful not to catch a cold. You should put on some clothes.”

Lu Heng actually didn’t want to wear it, but in the end, he put on his jacket under his wife’s urging and ended his roguish behavior. Wang Yanqing smoothed out the wrinkles on his collar and asked: “Have you found any leads on the person who tipped off the pirates?”

“Not yet.” Lu Heng replied. “But I’ve been releasing messages through different channels at different times. The people handling them are always the same few, so it won’t be hard to figure out who it is. This isn’t a problem, but there’s one thing I need your help with.”

Wang Yanqing quickly asked: “What is it?”

“Are you confident in distinguishing the truth, if the language is different?”

After hearing this, Wang Yanqing became puzzled. She thought for a moment and cautiously said: “I haven’t done it before, but we can try it.”

This inn was a contact point for the Imperial Guards and its underground level was known as the wine cellar, but in reality, it was a prison cell. Lu Heng changed into a new set of clothes and headed toward the dungeon with Wang Yanqing.

At one end of the dungeon was the interrogation room, and at the other end was the darkroom, where one could see what was happening inside through the iron bars. Wu Zhang had already been hung on the torture rack, unconscious. The wound on his thigh was still oozing blood, and his clothes were stained with blood, making him look extremely disheveled.

Lu Heng first entered the room to take a look, confirming that Wu Zhang’s clothes were on properly, before bringing his wife inside.

Wang Yanqing stepped into the darkroom. Upon seeing the scene in the interrogation room, she hissed: “It’s so bloody…” Bloody? The surrounding Imperial Guards had slightly awkward expressions. They knew that the Supreme Commander’s wife was coming, so they had intentionally toned things down. This was considered bloody?

Without batting an eye, Lu Heng said: “This man is a ruthless pirate. He injured several of our men, and even after his capture, he tried to attack me. He knew we were from the imperial court but still dared to act so arrogantly. I can only imagine how he bullies the common people. For such a heinous person, a slightly more severe punishment is necessary.”

Upon hearing that he had tried to attack Lu Heng, Wang Yanqing quickly asked: “Did you get hurt?”

“I’m fine.” Lu Heng smiled to reassure Wang Yanqing, thinking that the other person’s injuries were more severe. He signaled to his subordinates and said: “Let them know, we’ll start now.”

His subordinates immediately understood and went into the interrogation room to whisper into Guo Tao’s ear: “The Supreme Commander ordered that there should be no bloodshed, we can’t scare the Madam.”

No bloodshed? Guo Tao furrowed his brows and glanced at the whip in his hand. He had no choice but to step aside and change to a smaller, less visible, but more painful instrument. He ordered his men to pour a basin of saltwater over Wu Zhang. As the saltwater touched his wounds, the pain jolted Wu Zhang awake.

He opened his eyes and the figures in front of him appeared blurry. The flickering firelight cast shadows, making them look like ghosts.

Wu Zhang was at the sea since he was young and had no loyalty to the Ming Dynasty. He was used to seeing the imperial navy flee in panic when Japanese pirates attacked, and he thought of the officials as nothing more than incompetent drunkards and fools, easy to defeat. How could such an imperial court demand loyalty from its people? It wasn’t until today, when he encountered these people, that Wu Zhang realized the imperial court wasn’t entirely made up of useless fools.

It was almost laughable. These people were cruel in their methods, yet they all had upright and dignified appearances with very proper looks. The Imperial Guards, after all, were part of the emperor’s ceremonial guard, and besides having a clean background, their looks were also a hidden requirement.

A face of righteousness with the heart of a devil, these people were the epitome of that.

Guo Tao knew that the Supreme Commander and his wife were watching, so he didn’t dare speak too harshly. He politely asked: “Tell me, who are you, and who informed you of the Supreme Commander’s whereabouts?”

Although Wu Zhang had been spoiled by his older brother and became unruly, his mind was sharp. He knew that if he revealed that he was Chinese, these people would be relentless in their interrogation and would never stop until they got a confession. If he pretended to be Japanese, he could avoid answering questions under the guise of not understanding the language, protecting his older brother while minimizing the physical pain he’d have to endure.

Wu Zhang continued to act as if he couldn’t understand Guo Tao’s words, babbling in Japanese. Guo Tao felt like he was punching cotton, frustrated and powerless. The man couldn’t understand a word of their language, what use was it to apply all eighteen kinds of torture?

Wang Yanqing, observing through the iron window, suddenly said: “Try saying a curse word to him, something casual.”

Lu Heng fell silent for a moment, quickly thinking of an appropriate curse. They couldn’t say anything too vulgar in front of Wang Yanqing, but it still had to be effective enough to provoke the man. After thinking for a while, he called someone over and whispered something.

After hearing the instructions, Guo Tao’s companion whispered in his ear. Guo Tao thought to himself that the Supreme Commander’s requests were becoming more and more absurd. He wanted him to curse in an elegant manner, yet naturally and casually, without making it seem forced. Guo Tao thought that if he stayed by the Supreme Commander’s side for a few more years, he might as well join an opera and become an actor.

While silently grumbling, he walked to the side of the torture rack, pretending to hang the instruments back, and casually muttered a curse: “You little son of a b*tch.”

Wang Yanqing, observing from behind the iron window, saw a flash of anger and disdain on Wu Zhang’s face. She was certain and said with conviction: “He’s pretending. He understands Mandarin.”

Wang Yanqing purposely had the person inside display an attitude of frustration from the interrogation, implying that they could no longer continue the torture. Once Wu Zhang saw that the interrogation was over, his guard would lower, and at that moment, if he heard a casual curse, his micro-expressions would reveal his true emotions. Could someone who didn’t understand the language comprehend a curse?

Lu Heng chuckled lightly in the darkroom and gently escorted Wang Yanqing out: “Qing Qing, you don’t need to stay for the rest. Go back and wait for me.”

Wang Yanqing glanced at them but didn’t say anything. She wrapped her cloak tighter and left. As she stepped out of the wine cellar, the bustling atmosphere of the inn hit her. Guests were laughing and talking loudly, and a singer was playing the pipa on stage, creating a scene of peace and prosperity.

It was as though she had stepped into a different world from the cold, bloody dungeon she had just left. The guards noticed Wang Yanqing had stopped and quietly reminded her: “Madam, this way, please.”

Wang Yanqing gathered her thoughts, adjusted her veil, and walked upstairs.

In the interrogation room, Lu Heng spun a thin, sharp knife in his fingers as he paced slowly in front of Wu Zhang: “You’re from the Ming Dynasty, but you pretend not to understand Mandarin. What, do you want to be a Japanese that badly?”

Wu Zhang couldn’t understand how these people had seen through his disguise. His Japanese was fluent, even the Japanese pirates couldn’t tell he wasn’t one of them. At first, he intended to continue speaking Japanese to mask his identity, but these people were relentless, certain of his guilt, and they didn’t show any mercy. After coming out, the man picked a small knife, one that seemed harmless at first glance, but when used, it was cruel, targeting the most painful spots on his body. Wu Zhang couldn’t hold out much longer and eventually confessed.

Whether he confessed or not made no difference because these people had already made up their minds. If he continued to resist, it would only result in more pain.

Lu Heng played with the small knife, moving closer. Wu Zhang instinctively tensed his body. Lu Heng smiled at him and suddenly thrust the knife toward his palm. Wu Zhang squeezed his eyes shut, bracing himself for the next wave of pain. However, the expected agony never came. He opened his eyes and saw that Lu Heng had only driven the blade into the gap between his fingers, the back of the knife pressed tightly against the base of his fingers, almost piercing his skin.

Wu Zhang’s heart pounded, his breathing growing heavier. Lu Heng held the knife with one hand and coldly stared into Wu Zhang’s eyes: “Who told you I was in Suzhou?”

Wu Zhang didn’t answer. Lu Heng wasn’t in a hurry. He leisurely threw out the next question: “Who leaked the information about the fire guns on the ship?”

Wu Zhang’s eyes widened in horror. He tried to control his expression but was caught by Lu Heng’s sharp gaze. Lu Heng chuckled softly, straightening up and saying: “You’ve been lawless for so long, you’ve probably forgotten. When the King of Hell comes under the Imperial Guard’s blade, even he must bow. The imperial army couldn’t defeat you before, but that’s because they didn’t want to. Now, your good days are over. I captured you alive, and I can capture your leader too. Now, tell me, who was the informant? If you speak, you might get a quick end. If someone else reveals it, your crime won’t just be violating the maritime ban.”

Wu Zhang’s expression changed dramatically, his face contorting as he gritted his teeth and refused to speak. He was gambling, if Lu Heng had truly captured his elder brother, there would be no need to interrogate him. The fact that Lu Heng was so eager to discover the traitor only meant that his elder brother hadn’t fallen into their hands.

As long as he held firm, his elder brother wouldn’t be in danger. If he gave in, Jintai Island would be truly ruined.

Seeing Wu Zhang’s expression, Lu Heng sighed with regret and said: “I gave you a chance, but it seems you don’t appreciate it. Since you won’t speak, let me just tell you. I’ve already gotten the list of traitors. The Imperial Guards are known for erring on the side of wrongfully killing a thousand rather than let one person slip through. I’ll go through the names on the list and kill each one. Do you think I can’t catch all of you?”

Lu Heng emerged from the dungeon, and his freshly changed clothes were already soaked in the stench of blood. A subordinate quickly followed him, lowering his voice to report: “Supreme Commander, we’ve checked it out. The batch of firearms we seized today are referred to as bird guns by the locals. It’s said that they can hit flying birds in the sky, which is how they got their name. These bird guns are based on traditional Ming Dynasty firearms. The Franks brought them back to the West, improved them, and brought them back to the East and South Sea. After the Franks modified the bird guns, they became smaller and could be held with one hand, with greater lethality. They were quickly embraced by the Japanese pirates and other pirates. The Franks traded these bird guns to pirates for silk, tea, and gold, and when they returned, they brought back more bird guns. Everyone wanted bird guns, which is why when Zhu Wan killed a Frank last year, the backlash was so great.”

Lu Heng narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze unreadable: “It seems that the pirates aren’t the real threat, however, these westerners need to be dealt with carefully. We must eliminate their trading base, or else, even if we wipe out the entire Japanese pirates, the coastal regions will soon breed another wave of trouble with the support of those weapons.”

His subordinates repeatedly praised his wisdom. Lu Heng couldn’t be bothered with such flattery, his subordinates were only there to obey orders. The specifics of how he would devise the strategies and lure the enemy out of hiding were still up to him to figure out.

The inn originally had guests, but today, one by one, they were cleared out, leaving only the Imperial Guards. Lu Heng didn’t need to worry about his public identity and directly pushed open the door to Wang Yanqing’s room. Wang Yanqing had already undressed and was letting her hair down. Upon seeing him, she stood up and said: “You’re back.”

Wang Yanqing walked over, but Lu Heng took a step back and said: “Wait, I just came back from the dungeon, and I’m not clean.”

What Lu Heng referred to as not clean, certainly didn’t mean dust and the like. Wang Yanqing still approached him and said: “I just asked the kitchen to send some water. You’re injured, so it’s inconvenient for you. I’ll help you wash.”

Lu Heng looked towards the bathtub behind him: “Then you…” “I’ve already washed,” Wang Yanqing replied.

Lu Heng found himself in a dilemma. He probably had never encountered such a painful decision before. Of course, he wanted to agree, but if he did, his arm was still injured… Once again, Lu Heng silently cursed the traitors and the Japanese pirates. If it weren’t for them, he wouldn’t have to suffer through the torment of only being able to watch and not partake. In the end, he felt that life should be enjoyed to the fullest, and if there was an opportunity, it should be seized.

Lu Heng nodded and smiled, saying: “Then I’ll trouble you, Madam.”

During the bath, Lu Heng tried to make a few advances, but Wang Yanqing pushed him back each time saying, “You’re still injured.”

He was full of frustration, and after they changed into new clothes and got into bed, he couldn’t hold back anymore. He reached out and held his wife’s slender waist, hinting: “Qing Qing…” Wang Yanqing remained unmoved, her expression serious as she said: “You’re still injured.”

Lu Heng was almost overwhelmed when he heard this. He refused to let go and insisted, looking at her as he said: “There are always more solutions than problems.”

Wang Yanqing’s eyebrows twitched slightly, and she looked at him incredulously: “You’re in this state, and you can still think about such things?”

Such words were something a man couldn’t easily tolerate. Lu Heng immediately went to untie Wang Yanqing’s belt: “What about my state? If you try, then you’ll see.”

Wang Yanqing pressed his hand down, but the harder she pressed, the more forceful Lu Heng became. Wang Yanqing was nearly exasperated. She was afraid he might cause his wound to tear, so she eased up and gave him a warning glare: “Be careful with your injury!”

If they used the traditional position, it would be difficult to avoid involving his arm. Lu Heng thought for a moment, then with a meaningful look said: “If Qing Qing is concerned about my injury, then there is another way.”

Wang Yanqing coldly replied: “I think the best solution is to peacefully go to sleep.”

Lu Heng selectively pretended not to hear. As if she hadn’t said anything at all, he said: “I’ve heard that, if a woman is on top, it will be deeper. This is a good opportunity to check that. Qing Qing, come here. I’ll teach you.”
