Summary:
On the day of the eldest grandson of the Xie family’s grand wedding, the old madam harbored selfish intentions, favoring the third young master, Xie Shao. She worried that his laziness would lead to the family’s ruin. Having heard of the eldest daughter of the Wen family’s adeptness in managing household affairs, she secretly switched the groom.
Unexpectedly, the Wen family also had their own schemes.
The legitimate granddaughter of the Wen family, Wen Shuse, who was exceptionally beautiful but spoiled from a young age, was feared by her grandmother to be looked down upon by her future husband. Having heard of the eldest grandson of the Xie family’s gentle and considerate nature, the Wen family’s old madam, willing to bear the infamy, pushed her onto her sister’s wedding sedan.
That night, the gloating and sarcastic voices of the Xie family’s main branch could be heard through the wedding chamber.
Under the red candles, the dandy young master and the pampered young lady stared at each other, unable to speak, both of them giving up. The only consolation was probably the other’s face.
After marriage, the two fully showcased their flaws, living a life of constant financial strain.
Wen Shuse never complained, but every time Xie Shao returned at dusk, he saw her gazing at the courtyard of the main branch next door, fanning herself lightly, her face filled with longing and envy, “I really want to smash this wall. At least I could smell something, even if I can’t taste it..”
After all, she was his wife, and he couldn’t let her starve. The next day, Xie Shao entered the study for the first time and started copying books.
However, Wen Shuse was not just spoiled; she was also an insatiable bottomless pit.
“Sister-in-law’s new skirt today is really beautiful.”
“Brother-in-law gave his wife a pair of earrings yesterday; I’ve never seen such white jade in my life.”
“Husband, do you know, today Miss Wu’s fan is actually made of gold.”
Xie Shao: …
Xie Shao gritted his teeth and got up from the couch.
Later, when Xie Shao handed her the title of First Rank Lady, he couldn’t help but say, “Is it enough? If it’s not, your husband might have to go for the throne.”
This life is truly exhausting.
